About this image

View from near the top of Tesuque Peak in the the Sangre de Cristo Mountains. The 22° ring around the sun is formed from the refraction of light by ice crystals in the upper atmosphere.

Location

Tesuque Peak is accessible via the Aspen Vista trail and is near the Santa Fe Ski Area.  This trail is popular for cross-country skiing in winter and for hiking in other seasons, particularly in the fall when the aspen trees are changing color.
