Virtual
— December 8 - 9, 2020

An introduction to thermodynamic modeling of fluid-rock interaction and ore-forming processes using the GEMS code package

Dates: 8 Dec and 9 Dec, 14:00-18:00 Central European Time (6:00-10:00 AM Mountain Standard Time)

Organizers: Alexander Gysi (New Mexico Bureau of Geology and Mineral Resources), Nicole Hurtig, (New Mexico Tech) Dan Miron (Paul Scherrer Institute)

This practical workshop aims to introduce attendees to the use of GEM-Selektor and the MINES thermodynamic database for simulating fluid-rock equilibria in hydrothermal systems. The workshop covers a series of case studies and hands-on tutorials, including the reaction path of feldspar-water, the solubility ore minerals and complexation of metals in aqueous solution, mineral solid solutions, the alteration of basaltic rocks and 1D reactive transport using the GEM2MT module. The workshop will also include short presentations about of fluid-rock interaction modeling, the GEMSFITS program for optimizing parameters against experimental data, and an overview of the ThermoEcos project for managing thermodynamic data.

This event will be hosted by the organizers on the Zoom platform.
