Langbeinite--A uniquely New Mexico potash mineral

Langbeinite, K2SO4-2MgSO4, an accessory in many potash deposits, is mined only in New Mexico. Used as specialty fertilizer, its mineralogy is well known, but its genetic position in the depositional and metamorphic sequence of the Carlsbad district is not yet fully understood.
