Water Data Scientist / Integrator

Socorro, NM

JOB SUMMARY:
The ideal candidate for this position will use their knowledge of water data in New Mexico to support the Aquifer Mapping and Water Data programs at the New Mexico Bureau of Geology. This position will work primarily for the multi-agency Water Data Initiative – using modern data skills typical of a data scientist. This position is 1 year, full time regular limited term, with potential to continue based on future grants and funding. Remote work is acceptable in this position.

JOB FUNCTIONS:
Work with NM Water Data team to integrate Aquifer Mapping data with numerous other related datasets from external agencies. This will include working with water data developers to identify water data sources to integrate into water data products. 50% Data cleaning, data entry, QA/QC data, data wrangling and data engineering for water datasets, to bring related datasets together in modern API environment. 40% Communications, meetings and presentations working with numerous data providers (both with the New Mexico Bureau of Geology and external agencies) and data users. 10%

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's Degree Ideally with in geology, hydrology, environmental science, computer science, data analysis, data engineering or data management. Experience working with water data or hydrologic data including water quality and water quantity measurements. Knowledge of collection methods for water data, such as water level measurements or water quality sampling techniques. 3+ years’ work experience working on data cleaning and data wrangling or integration. Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to communicate clearly. Ability to work well with others and as part of a team.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Master's Degree Ideally with in geology, hydrology, environmental science, computer science, data analysis, data engineering or data management. Ph.D. or other doctorate level equivalent, ideally with in geology, hydrology, environmental science, computer science, data analysis, data engineering or data management. Familiarity with relational databases, such as MSSQL, MySQL, PostGRES, or other similar platforms.
