About this image

View of the east side of the Socorro Range from the south end of the town of Socorro. This north-south trending, west-tilting block forms part of the west side of the central Rio Grande Rift. The block is comprised primarily of Tertiary volcanic tuffs and lavas, some of which are up to 32 million years old. An active perlite mine operated by Dicaperl Minerals Corp. is visible on the far left side of the image. Socorro Peak, elev. 7,243 ft, is on the right side.
