— July 23, 2021

Join us on July 23rd at 3:30 pm to hear Abigail Plecki from the NM State Forestry Division present:

Tiffany Fire Rehabilitation: A Collaborative Success Story

ABSTRACT: In July of 2017 a large wildfire burned across the Tiffany basin near San Marcial in Socorro County, New Mexico (NM) encompassing 9,200 acres of both Bureau of Reclamation (BOR) project lands and private in-holdings. A team consisting of the BOR, NM State Forestry (NMSF), Sierra Soil and Water Conservation District (SSWCD), Save Our Bosque Task Force (SOBTF), Bureau of Land Management (BLM), and private land owners worked to develop a rehabilitation plan for the area to address the potential for fire hazard reduction of non-native regrowth, dead standing fuels reduction, and fire prevention activities in designated and accessible riparian areas. This 900 acre project was funded by the BOR through the NM Master Cooperative Agreement for Fire Management.

SPEAKER BIOGRAPHY: Abigail Plecki joined State Forestry as the Socorro District Timber Management Officer in March of 2020. She has a Master of Science degree in Forestry with a focus on Restoration Ecology from Southern Illinois University. Abigail is responsible assisting landowners with forest management plans, providing on-site technical forestry advice, and inspecting timber harvesting operations to ensure compliance with NM State Forestry’s harvesting regulations
