About this image
A controversial last stop on the 2021 NMGS Fall Field Conference to Mt Taylor. Described as a basaltic diatreme in the guidebook, many attendees think it is more likely a hydromagmatic deposit (center) overlain by basalt (right) and a possible perched lava pond (top). Whatever the interpretation, more work is needed at this amazing outcrop.
