Image of the Day — Slickenlines on Dakota sandtone

Slickensides (aka slickenlines) form when rocks move past one another along a fault. With close observation, these features can indicate the relative motion accross the fault. It is apparent from this photograph that the this partucular minor fault was strike-slip.
