About this image

Ladron Peak is a rift flank uplift on the western margin of the Rio Grande rift in the southern part of the Albuquerque basin. The uplift is bounded on the east by the normal low angle Jeter fault. The peak is cored by metamorphic supracrustal rocks and intrusive rocks. The western side of the peak is overlain by west dipping Paleozoic and Mesozoic rocks.

Location

The photograph was taken in the La Jencia basin north of Magdalena, NM. Ladron Peak is between Socorro and Belen, NM.  It can be accessed via County Road 12 (dirt) that leads to Riley, NM.  There are few trails and it is a very remote and rugged landscape, so don't attempt to reach the summit if you are not an experienced hiker.
