Image of the Day — Allosaurus Footprint

This Allosaurus footprint dwarfs a human foot (size: men's 8.5). There are several of these footprints exposed in a small trackway in Dark Canyon that show the massive stride that these creatures had. For more information about this trackway, see our popular river guide to the Rio Chama.

Dark Canyon, is opposite Navajo Peak along the Rio Chama Wild and Scenic River corridor.  It is easiest to access the canyon while on a river trip.  The trackways are in the bottom of the canyon.  Although the streambed is usually dry, occasionally sand and gravel can cover these tracks after heavy monsoon rains.
