GM-7 Reconnaissance Geologic Map of Playas Fifteen-minute Quadrangle
By Robert A. Zeller, 1958, scale 1:62,500.
This map covers the Playas Valley and surrounding highlands just north of the bootheel of New Mexico. In the Animas mountains to the west of the Playas Valley, Precambrian rocks are overlain by lower Paleozoic rocks through Permain strata. These Paleozoic rocks are unconformably overlain by Cretaceous igneous and sedimentary rocks, which are intruded by Cretaceous/Tertiary porphyries, and overlain by Tertiary volcanics. The portion of the Little Hatchet Mountains on the east side of the mapped area has similar rocks.
