JOB SUMMARY:
This Senior Hydrogeologist position will support the Aquifer Mapping Program at the New Mexico Bureau of Geology in their mission to characterize the aquifers and groundwater resources across the state of NM. Primary responsibilities will include conducting hydrologic research and providing scientific and technical support for a variety of regional and statewide hydrogeologic studies. This Senior position will be responsible leading a team of researchers and contractors to collect data, interpret and publish / present results. The Senior position is responsible for maintaining or procuring funding, and managing project funding. Experience leading or supporting field data collection, such as groundwater level measurements, geophysical surveys, well drilling and water sampling is required. Position is partially supported by soft money contracts; position is contingent on continued contract awards.
JOBS FUNCTIONS:
- Conduct hydrogeologic research (utilizing geologic, hydrologic, geochemical, and geophysical data); lead teams to develop interpretations and characterizations of New Mexico aquifers using existing and new data, utilize GIS and other software, and guide decisions on new data collection. 50%
- Prepare, propose and manage grants and funding to support hydrologic research. 10%
- Collect data in the field and coordinate staff team and contractors to collect, organize and manage data for hydrogeologic projects. 10%
- Interact with private citizens, businesses, government agencies, Indian tribes, federal, state and local government representatives, and other stakeholders concerning the geology and hydrogeology of New Mexico. 10%
- Prepare technical reports and maps to accompany hydrogeologic research; publish hydrogeologic research in appropriate outlets. 20%
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Master's Degree in Earth sciences, hydrology, geology, water related engineering. Comfort speaking to both scientific and non-scientific public on a daily basis. GIS and other modeling software. Microsoft and Google based products.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Groundwater research skills, data collection methods, geophysical data collection / processing.
