Stacy Timmons, Program Manager, Aquifer Mapping Program discusses water issues on Plains of San Agustin

In the May 24th edition of El Defensor Chieftain, Stacy Timmons, Interim Program Manager, Aquifer Mapping Program discussed the application by Agustin Plains Ranch, LLC to transport water pumped from the San Agustin aquifer via a 142-mile pipeline to Rio Rancho, and presumably, allow other potential users along the way to also purchase the water, including the City of Albuquerque.

The annual summer geology workshop for teachers, Rockin' Around New Mexico was held from July 8-11, 2014 in Silver City, New Mexico. Twenty five teachers, mostly from New Mexico, attended this year to learn about the geology, mineral deposits, and seismic history and risks of the local area.

Dr. William C. McIntosh, Senior Volcanologist & Geochronologist has been elected a Fellow of the Geological Society of America

Bill McIntosh was nominated by Dr. Christopher D. Henry for his exceptional research record on the geochronology and volcanology of the major provinces of western North America and Antarctica. Bill has been a world leader in developing and implementing techniques in 40Ar/39Ar dating through his highly productive New Mexico Geochronology Research Laboratory

Dr. Nelia Dunbar, Deputy Director has been elected a Fellow of the Geological Society of America

Nelia Dunbar was nominated by Dr. Charles E. Chapin, former Director of the New Mexico Bureau of Geology and Mineral Resources for the quality and breadth of publications and collaboration applied to magmatic volatiles, tephrochronology, volcanology, and glacial geology, By sharing access and data from her electron probe lab she has aided projects from Antarctica to the western U.S., including student research and training.
