Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) in New Mexico Well Water

The level of total dissolved solids (TDS) in water provides a quick general indication of water quality. Distilled water has no TDS.The maximum concentration level set by the US EPA for drinking water is 500 mg/l, but much of the groundwater in New Mexico has elevated TDS as shown in the map below. Values over 10,000 mg/l are considered brackish.
